An investigation by the Montgomery Police Department indicates all four students were attempting to break into a home in the 5900 block of Woodmere Boulevard to commit robbery around 7:35 p.m. Wednesday. While in the process of committing the robbery, police say their investigation shows Brooks was shot by the homeowner in self-defense. He was pronounced dead on the scene by responding medics.

Wall, Williams and Russell face the murder charge, despite not being the ones who pulled the trigger, because Brooks was killed during the commission of a robbery attempt in which they are suspects.

I guess that is the way the law works, but it seems kind of crazy and weird that all three are getting murder charges dropped on them.

Yep cause they committed another felony during the burglary. I don't feel sorry at all. My first thought is why not, just not break into people's house and this type of thing wouldn't be an issue

Yes, don't break into peoples homes and maybe you won't get shot/charged

How can someone who was killed in self-defense also be a murder victim at the same time?

4 people work out a plan where they rob a house that someone is in at the Time.

Yep, odds are exceedingly high that they were trying to get kilt.

Thinking dude don't get capped by homeowner if all four of them decided to grab a dorm pizza and play video games instead of robbing the homeowner. The other 3 caused the death? Charged.

It's simple...don't break into people's houses illegally.

I break into houses every day for work (bank repos) and I am scared one day I will get shot. I have gone into at least three houses that were supposed to be vacant only to find someone there and I have also found squatters in two more.

Murder? No! This is just another example of the stupid fricking Louisiana legislature grandstanding to appease their law & order base. This is stupid as frick. Put them in jail...but not for murder, Jesus Christ.

ha ha...so used to stupid shite in LA that I assumed this was too.

For a murder conviction you have to have some kind of motive and intent to kill. If they weren't armed it seems even reckless endangerment would be a stretch.

Apparently the rumor going around Faulkner is that this might have been some sort of hazing incident. The grandfather said that there was more to the story that will come out that he couldn't comment on yet.

Somebody I know that worked with him in HS said it's going around that they could have even been cutting through yards, hopping fences and just on this persons property.

This just happened barely 24 hours ago so there is still a lot of details to come out.
