i love the m1009s (as i've posted before on here) and he's found one in decent shape that runs including a trickle-charge solar panel installed by uncle sam that helps the battery going.

he's got a job and has the cash for it..but he's only 17 and i think he's getting in over his head as far as maintenance costs and gas.

thoughts?

If he's paying for it, let him potentially make the mistake and be there to help him out if need be. That's a fun car for HS, I know that much

Looks badass. What do you want him to buy, a Fit?

Your son doesn't have the ghey. Rejoice

His money, but I would let him know its a terrible investment and if its camo like that people are going to think he hates minorities and taxes

ETA:

But I'd tear that mother up in HS. I loved some mud riding back in the day and that thing looks fun as hell to drive.

Is it camo? Or is that just a photo you found?

What about convincing him to get an old school Bronco or something and get a good paint job on it? I feel like that would be a better panty dropper.

That thing gets about 6 miles to the gallon. I knew a guy with one back in the 90's.

They're solid vehicles and pretty safe for an inexperienced driver. The main issues he'll face is very high fuel costs. As for maintenance, things like regular oil changes and brake replacement are not difficult.

let him make the mistake now while he's young so he'll know better down the road and avoid making a much costlier decision

This is fair.

Also, he'll never want to drive after a while of paying for gas on that thing

If I had that car in HS, I would've "accidentally" hit some mailboxes.

No, that's not an MG, that's the slave start receptacle if I remember correctly.

hmm...

My first though was "money pit", but if its in good shape, it could make a cool vehicle.

Check carefully for rust in the inner front fender, firewall, and cowl area.

If it's a strain on him buying fuel down the road he can always jump the river and sell it to one of the cartels. They love em.
