kind of a cool thing to do, just because you don't really get to visit uninhabited islands too much in your life.
fwiw, bring sunscreen etc, as there is no shade. I don't remember how much stuff you can bring, but just read up on it all and be sure you bring everything that you will need.

Yeah, definitely go, as the best advice to anyone visiting biloxi, is get out of biloxi

Wife (no pics) and I went a few years ago. You get a tour of the fort that lasts like 10 minutes.
Beach was a long walk from the landing. Don't remember much else, there was a snack stand that was closed IIRC while we were there too.
Nothing too special.

It's been 20 plus years since I've been out there, but it was pretty cool. Water is cleaner than Biloxi water. There used to be a nice, big covered area with food stand, tables, etc. to shade in, but I think all of that was destroyed in Katrina. I don't know what they have now. Fort Massachusetts was just some ruins; nothing too great. Nothing to tour really; just look around. I didn't care much about it until I found out some of my ancestors were prisoners of war there. In short, if I have to go a beach in Mississippi, it would be Ship Island.

If you want to get in the water at all, i'd go to ship island. I took the kids this summer and the fort was closed due to standing water in it. I would imagine it is open again by now. The fort is free to walk through and they give guided tours frequently. You have to walk by it to get to the beach. You can rent a pair of chair and umbrella and there is a concession shop that has a few other things as well.

It’s pretty fun, about an hour boat ride, but when you get out there it’s basically gulf shores water

We go once a year and went this past weekend. Beach was in good shape (it's not Orange Beach or further East) and water was nice. Again, still not orange beach. Decent walk from boat to opposite end of the island, but you walk on a deck. Bring a rolling ice cheat with beverages, no glass bottles, some snacks, and sunscreen for sure. You can rebt2 chairs and an umbrella for $20. Well worth it.
Boats leave at 9am and 12pm and return at 2:30 and 5pm. About a 50 minute boat ride. Also, can do a tour of the fort, although we didn't this time. Tour takes like an hour.

If you like that sort of thing you will enjoy. Im not a beach person, but here is my opinion.
Water crystal clear, you can see your feet as far as you can walk in the water
It is hot af, bring sunscreen.
Bring shoes of some sort, you have to walk through (black sand) before you get to white sand... it is HOTTTT. Even with flip flops it is.
The snack stand is there, and offers some shade and burgers and stuff (dont feed the coons)
You are stuck there several hrs, so make sure you enjoy that sort of thing because once you are there you are stuck.
The ride out is cool, dolphins, pelicans, and tons of jellyfish to see.

Did it once, and was fricking miserable. Too damn hot, came home looking like a lobster. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Kinda the main reason why we wanted to go. The in laws wanted to watch the kids for the whole weekend and we love the beach but didn't feel like driving to Florida after work Friday. So we picked Biloxi because of ship island and a couple things to do

In that case, be sure to stay hydrated. At all times.

Pretty well covered....
Bring what you need
It'll be hot
You are stuck there awhile
The fort isn't much
Probably the best beach in Mississippi
Not exceptional though
If 6 hours at the beach and a boat ride are your ideas of a great vacation day- you'll love it.
If someone in the group starts getting antsy after 45 minutes and needs constant entertainment- not the best scene.

If things get boring, go to the nude section.
