so I currently work nights- 8pm-7am with a rotating weekend off. been doing it for a while, and hate working nights. well I was presented with the opportunity to switch to days, 8am to 7pm on a set tues-saturday schedule. 8-8 on Saturdays. man I hate giving up ever single Saturday incase something gives up. have to let boss know my decision by next Monday.

any advice

That's way too much work. You should move to Sweden.

As a Navy man (clears throat) I've done a total of 3.5 years of shift work in my nearly nine years in (we call it watch). There is no quality of life comparison between shift work and straight days. There is a rare breed of human who enjoys the rotation, but that's really no way to live if you want to enjoy life and actually be in sync with the people around you.

That said, why the frick would you be working 67 hours per week if you switched? Is this an offshore gig in which you get weeks off at a time.

That's no way to live either.

its hourly so OT is great. pay is good. but yes hours suck! 56-57 hours a week.

my dilemma is this. I can work nights and hate it, but if I need something done during the day I can miss a few hours of sleep.

if im on days, no leaving so im screwed.

You're between a rock and a hard place, and you don't seem happy. Find a new job.

Well I'd still advise days if you can swing it. An increase of 10 hours per week gives me pause, though.

On a side note, I don't know your priorities, responsibilities, social obligations, or anything of the sort. But I'm honestly of the opinion that that's too much work (long term). If you're saving up for something big, setting yourself up for a better deal, or getting out of debt, so be it. But that's too much fricking work to enjoy life. It's all downhill after your 20s (I'm 31).

Take it. Do errands and research for a new job on Sundays. Interview on Mondays.

Look at the sorta normal hours as your exit strategy.

I worked 7 12's forever. They suck, but the money is awesome. I'd want the days if I were you.

This makes it sound like there's 60 hours worth of office work to be done. If so, you better be making absolute fricking bank. I'd go insane if I were in an office for 60 hours a week.

I love rotating shift, but i have enough vacation time to take off weekends as i do every saturday during the fall during football season. We can take days or hours vacation at a time, and I have 6 weeks per year. I love working nights because i hate waking up because i have to. I like waking up when i want to, and it's nice to be able to take care of things during the week when most people are at work. work 3 on and 3 off.

THIS

Also...I only work 3 12s a week at my full time job so having 4 days off a week is nice. Do your schedule right...you can have 8 days off in a row without using any vacation time
