Matthew Gerald was the other BRPD officer that was killed. I went to St Isidore elem with him. He came from a great family and was USMC i believe. RIP Matt

Went to high school with his sister in law. I never met him but I know his brother Brian. My thoughts and prayers are with their family today

If I remember correctly Coach Johnny had three sons. I didn't know the eldest, Brad, and Brian.

Brad is one of the officers that were killed today. Brian is two years younger than Brad.

Brad's uncle, Coach Sonny, was a member of the BRPD.

The Garifola family was one of the prominent coaching families in the 80's in Baton Rouge. They ran the River Oak Bengals organization in BREC Football and later disbanded the Bengals to form the Millerville Mustangs. The Bengals/Mustangs won several city championships in the 80's

Condolences to all the posters on here that knew any of the victims and/or their families.

Tough, tough thing to go through when it's so senseless.

I knew Brad, incredibly helpful person, and I always felt a deep sense of gratitude for all he did for me. I would appreciate someone sharing information on what we can do to help the families of the officers who gave their lives today.

Man I dozed off watching all of this coverage and woke up and saw Matts picture, so sad, My first thought when I heard about it this morning was hoping JV was ok, I didn't even know that Matt was a cop now.

I went to River oaks and Millerville Academy. Played ball with the Garafola family. Brett the eldest, Brad the middle and Brian the youngest were my friends and neighbors from the Lake Forest Park neighborhood.

Like I said, been friends with them for a very long time. I'm 43 so that would make it at least 36 years

I didn't know Matt and JK dated back then. i remember him at IMMs as well. His mom was a super nice lady that was my CCD teacher in middle school. She is in a bad place right now. So sad.

You are one year older than me. Sounds like we were teammates back in the day. Maybe even friends.

I was the TE that lined up next to Brian.
