I find it hilarious that oil is the only product that has incredible demand around the world but people EXPECT to not just stay at the same price but go down. Can anyone think of another product like that?

This is 100% a true statement about Motiva. They will not release a statement until it is official.
Yeah, that is old news really. One of the worst secrets there ever was if it is supposed to be one. I don't think they're really trying to hide anything when they moved out of Shell's building

I can see that. Some of these guys are having to pull up the stakes and move. We're even feeling it overseas. They've already dropped 4 rigs and considering buying a few more out of their contracts. We're on contract until early 2nd quarter next year but that doesn't mean shite right now.

My son is about to start a Petroleum Safety program at a local college.... Should he consider a different focus? In all candor, he's not going to be a doctor or an engineer... We figured safety would have opportunities beyond just oilfield if things don't turn around. Thoughts?

I worked in Staffing for O&G firms and safety guys are a dime a dozen. I would not go into that, specially during a downturn.

The Iran deal was about oil. It isn't isn't about keeping nuclear missiles from Iran or about preventing war. It's about opening Iranian oil to the rest of the world.
The environmentalists who were major in electing our president are working to drive oil down to end fracking in the U.S. That way the U.S. oil production will slow to a crawl and the Middle East will be back in control of the market.
It isn't about religion or keeping peace

Sorry, but this is a retarded opinion.

If anyone wants to see Iran open up it's O&G guys. Iran's O&G infrastructure sucks, and lifting sanctions means $$$ for Western firms to go in and do some work.

I worked in the Middle East and guys were always talking about what a huge opportunity Iran would be when it opens up.

Shell to ax thousands of Jobs by Dire Wolf

Such bullshite. O&G have been turning record profits basically every quarter for over a decade, yet they can't afford to keep their workers on payroll?

Sucks for those workers, and they should be livid at Shell.

They can afford it but they aren't going to pay them to do nothing.

This isn't the state

That's weird. The company I work for is a construction and fabrication company and we are hiring welders, pipe fitters, and several other positions like crazy.

No, I just know guys from Convent that have been transferred to HOU to be on the team to make it happen

Interesting. I foresee a lot of people trying to escape Convent to leave for Geismar, if that happens.

I haven't seen any cuts at the refinery where I work. Project work took a hit in a lot different refineries (including mine) from what I hear though.

Now midstream and upstream is a different story. We've had a lot of cuts there.

Downturns are just part of being in oil and gas and nobody really knows what it's going to look like 2,3, 4 years from now

Tell that to Northwest La that has never recovered from the 80's bust. Shreveport was "Little Dallas," turned to gaming to survive in the early 90s and is back to a shite hole after a glimmer of hope in the early to mid 2000s.

The Haynesville Shale couldn't even bring back the small to medium sized towns in NWLA. Just shite holes with boarded up businesses, a Wal Mart and nothing but white trash running around.

The O&G employs a ton of people with advanced degrees. Not sure where people get their info from.
