picking up a yukon xl for my wife and leaning towards second row bench seating. I figure the vehicle will be able to hold more people and save me $750-$1000. Plus, my older kids can get over the second row no problem. Children are 6, 4, 2 and -5 months.

So you'll be paying $74,250 instead of $75k.

I would go with the bench seat

Gross. Hope it's leather, cause there's going to be a hell of a mess with all that aborted fetus goo everywhere.

Captains chairs prevent a lot of fighting.

Just ask for the Catholic special and they will include a 4th row.

go with captain's chairs...makes vehicle seem more roomy and person sitting in middle of third row can stretch out legs.

Not a chance! He's got at least 3 more reps in him.

Not with car seats installed.

Get a bench with all those kids. There will be times where people want to bring friends and you'll be glad for the extra seat.

But you might want to check if both outside seats on the bench have the child seat hooks. For some reason on mine, the seat on the drivers side doesn't have the hooks so I have to use the seatbelt. My Yukon is an 07, though.

Absolutely get the captains chairs. This isn't a question. You'll be able to fit 7 with the third seat. Don't need much more than that or you're caravaning anyway.

And 6 are already accounted for! With a family of 4, captain's chairs is a no brainer. Personally, I'd like to be able to accommodate more than one guest (like a couple of grand parents).

Captains chairs no doubt. You won't realize how much better it is until you have the vehicle for yourself.

Captain's chairs. If you can ever find a sitter for those kids, and go out with another couple, the ladies will appreciate it. I moved back home to take care of my 87 and 83 yr. old parents. Neither drives now so I take them everywhere. My mom loves the captain's chairs. Says it's way more comfortable than a bench seat.

Captain's chairs and don't look back. Just like captains wafers over saltines.

The bench seats are more useful and will recline.
Keep in mind they will not slide back and forth. They tumble.
I had an Acadia and later Enclave both with captains chairs. I prefer the bench seat in my Tahoe.
Be sure to get leather seats when you have kids. Black leather seats, that it.

On a vehicle that large I'd actually go with the bench, as the middle seat is wide enough to be functional. I guess the caveat is if you know you will never need that extra seat, you can go with the captains chairs because they are roomy and they make the cabin a bit more spacious.

I'm looking at getting a Durango or Acadia, and the middle bench seat can't fit 3 comfortably, so I'm going with captains chairs.
