I have no idea other than to say PayPal has been air tight for me.
The paypal scam is they send you a fake email from paypal (it has the graphics and everything laid out just like a real paypal email) and it says you've received a payment from Joe Blow. The scam works if the seller doesn't check his actual paypal account for the money and trusts the confirmation email only. Seller thinks they got paid so they ship the item to the scammer.

The way the scam works is he sends you a fake email saying you have been paid, complete with working links that appear to show you have been paidoing or give you some type of malware.

As long as you don't click a link in the email and log in to your PayPal from your browser you will see whether you have actually been paid and avoid getting malware.

I just called him. Nice guy. Good honest Christian. I didn't get a weird vibe. Go ahead with the deal.

I had a similar experience several years ago when I put my Blackberry on Craigslist. Several people offered me more than I was asking if I would ship to Africa. I decided that something didn't sound right so I just sold it to a local buyer for cash money.

You can get a phone number with any area code with google voice. I used google voice to communicate the one time I sold something through craigs list. Area codes don't necessarily mean much anymore. Also, if it's google voice then signing him up for whatever isn't going to do much damage as he can very easily just discard the number and get a new one.

There's nothing else to do other than move on and not fall for his shite.

I'm not sure if it was this board or somewhere else, but someone screwed around with a scammer with Western Union somehow. From what I remember they gave them a fake transaction number and with Western Union you have to go into a brick and mortar to retrieve the money, there's no way to verify it online. So basically they sent the person down to the store multiple times for nothing. Solid way to waste somebody's time and scam them.

But that was with buying something, not sure you could use that with selling something. Just tell them you do pick up only.
