Saw an Eastern Towhee on the ground below my feeder today

Normally you hear them but dont see them. Beautiful birds.

BC they are extremely low key birds with a very distinctive high pitched call. More common in rural areas normally in thick brush. I've seen them most often while in the woods at the camp.

I saw this metro dressed bird in the yard today. Actually two of them. They live in the bushes.

I can hear several calling in my yard now, very common bird in my area. In the spring they are pretty easy to see since they will sit on top of bushes and sing for a mate. They are part of the sparrow family in spite of the coloring. In Baton Rouge you can occasionally see Eastern Towhee/Spotted Towhee hybrids; Western Towhee is over in Texas.
