What can y'all tell me about this place? I see it frequently pops up whenever we do one of those "rank these cities/where would you live if you could live anywhere" threads. Is it actually a decent place to live and/or visit, or do people mostly like it for skiing, snowboarding, hiking, etc. I just found out that I'll be going there in December -- what should I do while there?

Yeah I know...Mormons.

If SLC was anywhere other than Utah, I would consider living there. For its size, it was the cleanest city I've ever seen.

Last time I was in Utah my dad commented to a young lady how few black people there were. It was rather awkward.

My wife is from there. Beautiful area. They live in Park City and make the 20 minute commute into SLC. That drive is pretty fun up and down the canyon.

Is awesome. One of the best places I've lived. And I went from NO to SLC, so a big, big change.

This certainly helps, and is a pretty big draw for anyone in the area. Outdoors and Sports in General are huge here, even in the older crowd.

It's clean (outside of inversions), family-oriented and has an active young culture, Park City is 30 minutes away, which is awesome for many many reasons, the Beer scene is above average, Startup Money is flowing here fast, and it's highly educated and tech-oriented. The interstate system is also well-done, they get a ton of music and arts year round.

This isn't Denver, when I want to go to the mountains, I could run a mile down my street and I'm in the middle of a massive canyon, no hour-long drive.

The big cons are lack of Seafood and/or Open Water/Beaches.

Other than that, my QoL skyrocketed here, just so much more to do than New Orleans. Honestly. Although, less night time activities, more outdoor activities for sure.

I've never been there and I would move there tomorrow if I could.

We went there as part of our "Wild West" honeymoon trip in 2012.

It's super clean. Most people are extraordinarily friendly. The city and state govt is run by the Mormons (shocker). It's pretty with the mountains overlooking the city. The food scene was ok. If you go to the Mormon history museum, they completely whitewash any controversial part of the church's past, like when the head of the church became the territory's governor, along with it's militia. They also have weird liquor laws- like if you get a double at the bar, they just give you twice the mixer .

If you get outside of SLC, people get generally more open minded. We went to Moab, to see Arches NP, and most of the folks there are literal hippies. It's quite the culture clash between the clean cut Mormons and the peyote smoking hippies .

If I have the chance to, I'd stay here even though it's far away from most of my family and friends. And I'm not once to say "that's a good thing," my family and friends are great, but SLC has been a fantastic place to live.

Edit: OP should probably change the title or add to it if you want the anchor removed. 3 Word titles are not descriptive enough.

Because it doesn't get pushed to the top when someone responds.
