Sadly, my cord cutting experiment was a failure

I thought Sling was going to be the solution to my problem. With ESPN, SEC Network, and the ESPN family, I was going to finally be able to cut the cord.
For the Auburn game Thursday night, I had the opportunity to compare Sling to my cable box. The game delay for Sling was about 5 minutes. Auburn scored and kicked off again on my cable box, but on Sling they were still driving for their first score. Seriously?! I can understand a 10 or 20 second delay, but not 5 minutes.
Plus occasional buffering. Not cool.
Bummer!

you must have really crappy internet
my delay is about 10 seconds using watchESPN app on my Roku 3
rarely do I have buffering issues

LOL...When read the Thread Title I thought, " Oh no...I hope the baby is ok." Breathed a sigh of relief when I opened and saw what it was really about.

I don't get it. Why does it matter? You trying to live tweet the games or something?
Knowing the results 5 minutes after everybody else is worse than your $200/mth data and cable bill?

Thought this was going to be a baby-birthing mishap.

You should move to Chattanooga. They have faster internet and should meet your needs.

most people i know who have sling use the watchespn app when actually watching games.

It's an issue because I also follow along on twitter and the Tigerdroppings scoreboard page. I like to experience the action with the rest of the world.
I was using a Roku stick on my back porch via wifi, so maybe that's the issue. I didn't check the signal on my Roku 3 that's connected via ethernet cable. Maybe that was the issue.

Nah. Those things would not mean a 5 minute delay.

For whatever reason the ESPN streams on Sling seem to lag and buffer no matter the internet speed. Via the Watch ESPN app I am only on about a 10 sec delay and rarely buffer. The ESPN channels are the only ones that seem to have this issude, I dont know if it's on ESPN's end or SLing's but the APP is a viable work around to save $150+ a month vs sat.

so, you're pissed about it being a few minutes late? are you going to be going back and forth between watchESPN and cable?

Mine is delayed 1 to 2 minutes on my roku. Nothing like getting a "wow" text as we're lining up for a field goal.

I don't pay attention to online threads while watching games. So it doesn't bother me if it's 5 min behind. Plus they had a "sky cam" view of the game. Couldn't watch it the entire time, but it was really cool to see the game from that view for a few series. Was like you were playing Madden.

Sounds like AT&T internet speed.

its probably not cox fwiw
I stream all my games via watchespn app. It works almost all of the time, although the website sucks.
It does have a 10-20 sec lag, which sucks b.c the fam will text scores right after it happens. but we just mute our phones.

OP is mad that it messes up his Twitter experience? fig!

I find the WatchESPN app is better for streaming games than the ESPN/SECN channels on Sling.
I still have a few bufferings each game, but not enough to make me want to switch back.
