It's inevitable. Technology already exist in the form of deep brain stimulators, the mechanism is not entirely understood, there are excitation and inhibition hypothesis, that can void the symptoms of Parkinson.
We can via diffusion tensor imaging map out white matter tracts. New things coming being research called diffusion functional MRI will hopefully allow us to map neuronal activity.
It's only a matter of time before the human brain will interface with a computer directly.
We already interact with computers with our brain translated through our hands, eyes, voice etc. Eventually that will all be able to be bypassed.

We will one day be able to completely download our consciousnesses and memories to data banks so that our kids can relive our lives virtually.
