LSU should get ahead of the crowd by offering gamers student athlete status. This is going to happen eventually, and it's enjoyable to destroy other colleges year after year by having a head start on recruitment.

People do not realize the time and dedication it takes to master games and compete on a competitive level. Anyone can play a game, but the professionals spend hours each day every day honing their skills and learning how to improve, often making it a job instead of a hobby.

some pro gamers make more than college athletes. The purses for some of these tournaments is just crazy. Also, if you are good enough in a particular game (mostly sports games), you can go and make money off of each game played. I've played money games on sites for $20 a pop. If I play/win 5 games a day, I can make $500 a week just off that alone.

So while I understand that these guys are not "athletes", pro gaming is going to be mainstream more so than it already is, within the next 2-3 years.

Bookmarked so I can come back and call you a fricking idiot in two years.

Pro gaming will never take off like professional paintball never took off. The only people who would watch that are people who play those games. It's got a predetermined market size and it's maxed out now.

You're a fricking idiot and a loser.

HBO Real Sports had a segment not too long along about this LINK. Seems like the idea is being discussed across the country.

It's still a bit weird to see gaming featured as a sport on major networks. But I guess with time this will catch on.

I am far removed from being a student at LSU, but it seems the Revielle is complete shite. I don't remember it being that bad when I was in college.

Espn covers gaming tournaments now. Madison Square Garden and the Staples Center have both sold out in minutes for gaming tournaments. It won't get to the level of the NFL, but professional gaming is big business.
