What say you OT?

I understand it that the functional can be better for shifting gears in your career or to cover up gaps...I am thinking of shifting gears...but worried the functional will make me look desperate or something...like I'm trying to hard...I normally use chronological....

What is a functional resume?

I've never heard of the term. I think mine has always been chronological.

What is a functional resume?

Lists your jobs/career in the order it most applies to the job you want instead of just chronologically from most to least recent. The purpose is to highlight the skills and experience you have, regardless of when it occurrs, that would apply to a position you are seeking.

I'd say that it depends on the job your are interviewing for and how much experience you have. Some places prefer chronological. You can ask if you want. I think most would prefer functional. Put yourself in their shoes. Do you really think they care about the work experience that you gained by working the summer Camp at Womatapa?

The goal is to keep it to 1 page. Put your most relevant work experience first. If they are interested, they can contact you and you can answer any questions about other things that you've done.

Unless you change jobs and do vastly different things, your work experience should be able to be chronological yet still functional. I would assume your most recent position is probably close to the most similar to what you are applying for.

Resumes: Functional or Chronological?

When I first read the topic, I thought it said "Fictional or Chronological", in which case I'd go with Chronological.

As it is, I'd still go with Chronological.
