We've rescued three dogs (all Giant Schnauzers). Every one came with issues. They are rescues for a reason. They can still be great companions but they were rescued.

Don't always believe the predicted weight and size of the dog that they will tell you. I got mine at 6 weeks old from a shelter and they said 50lbs at most. He is now 100lbs and as tall as me when he stands on his back legs. Definitely get them out of the crate and see how they interact with you. Most shelters have a yard area to see how the dog interacts with the owner. If you have a family, take your family to look. Get a feeling of how the dog is around kids if you have kids.

I just found a dog today that I'm going to foster until he can get back to health and then I'll try and adopt him out. Been doing this rescue stuff for quite awhile.

The only reason I use that phrase is people give you discounts on dog things.

You went to the pound and got a dog nobody wanted. Stop trying to church it up.

Rescuing a dog doesn't mean it was at the pound. There are many rescue organizations for breeds and the vast majority of those dogs never see the humane society pounds.

Every small dog I've ever encountered has gone in the house. Larger breeds aren't as prone to it, that's just a fact.
