Report: Cruising in left lane more dangerous than speeding

Every state has some law on the books restricting use of the left lane... Georgia has increased the penalty for violating this law to a misdemeanor.
In 11 states (shown in green), the laws are even stricter — specifically saying the left lane is only for turning or passing.
quote:
Research has generally shown that the strongest predictor of an accident isn't speeding, but variance from the average speed of traffic — and a car going 5 miles per hour slower than the surrounding traffic has a greater chance of causing an accident than one going 5 miles per hour faster than it.
If relatively slow drivers are scattered among the right and left lanes, faster drivers have to repeatedly slow down and weave back and forth, changing lanes many times to pass all of them. If the slower drivers are all driving in the right lane, a faster driver can pass several at a time, then get back into the right, cutting down on the total number of lane changes
We've had this discussion numerous times but I want to do my part to get the word out. I would like to propose a federal punishment of death by firing squad for those ticketed with cruising in the far left lane.

In other news, some oral sex is more enjoyable than no oral sex.

Why ticket them, then? Just execute them in the street.

Texas drivers never get out of the left lane

We're not barbarians. They can get ticketed and show up for a scheduled court date to be executed.

I've done my own research and on I-10 and I-12 in Louisiana, you can bet the house that the slow driver in the left lane has Texas plates.

Mississippi drivers are bad with this too, especially on 610.
Taxi cabs treat the left lane like their personal HOV.
I used to get upset, now I just pass on the right.

I like to set my cruise on the speed limit and drive in the left lane. It helps slow down the speeders. I'm probably saving some of yall a hefty fine.
No need to thank me.

Is this where we say people that break the law and go faster than the speed limit deserve to go to jail?

You're doing God's work, bless you.

I believe I need to do a study on this theory. I am an expert on the latter. Think I can get a government grant? I'd probably need to money to continue.

It's completely irrelevant unless/until cops start enforcing it or the rest of us are legally allowed to PIT those slow frickers into the median.

This doesn't make much sense to me. I agree that people should get out of the left lane, but the study confuses me.
How can cruising in the left lane be more dangerous than speeding if people weren't speeding in the first place.
If you remove the people speeding, then cruising in the left lane causes no problems. Therefore, the people speeding is what makes cruising in the left lane dangerous.

This is about safety. You should do your part to save lives. Law enforcement can handle speeders.

You don't have to be speeding to be going faster than someone in the left lane.

Breaking: water IS wet
This is not breaking news but it's weird how commuting I-10 in the mornings now has made me get comfortable doing 80-85 instead of 70-75. I feel much safer staying with the plant workers!
I also have a serious question.
This little fricktard drives a black Toyota Yaris about the same time as me every day from Baton Rouge past the 310 where I exit and again on the way home(my guess is he works in 730-430 in Ken/Met/Nola). He consistently blows by everyone in excess of 100+mph .
1. How the hell does a Yaris go over 100?
2. Do I just call 911 and report that as a reckless driver? Or do I call the LSP Troop around St Charles/St John Parish and tell them about this fricker and let them set him up?
He's going to kill someone besides himself on a serious note.

Slow drivers need to keep out of the left lane, but these clowns weave in and out of traffic going over the speed limit too.

Maybe because there are so many left exits in Texas, or at least in the Houston area. When I know that I need to take a Left exit off an interstate, it can be difficult to know how early to get over to the left lane.
