At 33 I just got shin splints for the first time. Anyone have any remedies aside from rest?

TIA

My wife (no pics) had marginal success with the sleeves.

She finally FIXED it by seeing a PT (no pics of her, either) who fixed a couple of things with her running form and the shin splints subsided.

Rest don't over exert your legs for a week or so.

Walk on your heels a good bit. 10-15 minutes a day. Maybe more.

Thanks

I'm going to make a shoe change tomorrow. I'll look into the PT next week. Can never hurt to correct my form.

Not needed. Run barefoot. No more shin splints. Do not come down on heels.

Stretch your calves. Google gastric and soleus stretches. Good luck.

Stretch them to constant dorsiflexion and plantar flexion stretches. This will feel very good. Ice them after with elevation.

do the reverse calf raises on the steps and get the kyle korver knee high compression jogging shorts that nike makes. they're like $50 but they're amazing.

Also only jog on treadmills with an incline set to 1.5 - 2.5. that helps a ton.

Yes. Go to gym. If they have a leg curl machine, the old lying down kind, SIT on it and place feet under that roller. Flex them towards you.

There is this machine but not all gyms have it.

If they don't have one, get one of those rubber band thingies and slip over your foot. Flex foot towards you.

I have heard that stretching your calves helps. Not necessarily right before exercise, just increasing general calf flexibility.
