So a little background: I'm a mid to senior level exec for a multinational company. In order to keep moving up the ladder I need to relocate. Well my two options are in the ATL metro or in New Orleans (Alpharetta and Central City specifically). While I have travelled to both cities several times, I'd just like to get some more input. For the record, I have a wife, a 4 year old and a newborn. Oh and I'd like to live near those offices so I can bike to work. What is your opinion on where I should plan to live in long term?

Thanks!

be more specific about central city, because you may be mistaken, its a pretty rough area and I can't think of many offices around there.

Schooling in New Orleans can be expensive, I am not sure what it is like in Atlanta. Housing is currently expensive. Insurance is expensive.

New Orleans is a lot of fun and I certainly wouldn't move but unless you really put some stock in to the music and food scene or the proximity to fishing, etc. it may not be worth it for you.

I don't want to get too specific. It's a fairly well known corporation

Atlanta. Pains me to say it.

I love New Orleans, but it's not where I'd want to raise my young children. Definitely not in Central City.

Biking to and from work in Central City?? This is not a good idea!

Despite being from NO, I'm gonna vote ATL here.

Especially if it's Alpharetta. That's a decent area I'd be much more comfortable biking in.

Lot's more opportunities to change companies as well.

Central City? That's a war zone.

I'd pick NOLA because you can live in nice suburb 5-30 minutes away whereas Atlanta is larger and might be longer commute if the immediate area is a slum shithole.

PS - Biking to work you'll sweat your arse off even early in the morning and probably get bike-jacked.

Well if you work after dark, i personally wouldn't be too comfortable biking home a lot if you are actually in central city.

As others have said, Alpharetta is nice and if you plan on living close enough to bike to work the main detractor from the are, traffic, is a nonfactor. Unless you put stock in to some of the above stuff i mentioned food/music/festivals/etc. I am not sure what the benefit of living here would be that you couldn't get with vacations.

Atlanta. Alpharetta is great place to raise a family. It won't have the uniqueness that Nola has, but it's very scenic and much better overall. **I lived in Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area of Atlanta for four years, and grew up in SELA.**

Oh boy.

This is the OT, most people are going to tell you Atlanta is the opening to Hades and you'll be lucky to be alive in 3 months.

Who gives a shite who you work for? You want advice or naw? Like another poster said, NOLA is a big city, and the part you said is ghetto as hell.

Didn't realize atlanta had no suburbs.

OP specifically said central city and alpharetta. I've personally never been to central city, but based on your own description this looks like alpharetta in a landslide.

I don't work late that often but sometimes I will pick up and drop off the 4 yr old to daycare on the way to work. Like this:

I'm hoping I can continue this arrangement in our new city

Surely you mean the CBD and not Central City?

Central city is not an option for you.
