Traveling through Jacksonville for a wedding next week. Looking for recommendations on places to stay by the beach and things to do. Worth the drive down to St. Augustine?

Thanks.

Yes absolutely.

It's worth leaving Jacksonville area as much as you can

One Ocean in Atlantic Beach is super nice. A little pricey.

Next door to it in Neptune Beach is The Seahorse, which is a retro motel built in the 50's, but they keep it super clean.

Tons of restaurants and bars within walking distance to both.

And yes, St Augustine is worth it.

If you drink beer then Engine 15 and Green Room Brewery are worth a visit

Also, Casa Marina in Jax Beach is another hotel. Really old and reasonably priced with a cool rooftop bar.

If you're just there for a night or two the Hilton in downtown or Hotel Monica. If longer a house or hotel on Vilano or St. Aug Beach.

I'm not sure what the name of the place we stayed down in St Aug but it was nothing special and pretty cheap. Make sure to go to

Castillo Real on the island is nice and right on the beach. Be sure to eat at A1A Burrito Works. There's one right across from the beach and one downtown. Also, Mango Mango's at A Street on the beach is really good, carribbean fusion style food. Nalu's fish tacos is excellent but it's just a trailer in the Surf Station parking lot so it has odd hours.

Vilano kinda sucks if they're wanting stuff to do close by. Just my opinion though.

eta: Plus, the beach itself is kinda shitty and there really is no beach at high tide.

Nothing against your suggestion. I've just never liked Vilano. Not sure why.

I like less crowded beaches.

Me too. Just never liked the soft conquina sand there. Can't ride a bike and just walking down the beach can be an effort.
