instead of before.... 20$ instead of $20.
I've never seen this before, but it seems to have recently become a thing.
What am I missing?

Isn't that a European thing? (With the pound or euro, not the dollar, but putting the sign after...)

Millennials. They don't know how to write in cursive either.

They are just typing it like they say/think "20 bucks."

I've noticed it too, but since typing on the internet is given a lot of leeway from proper English, I'll allow it.

I'm going to highjack this thread for a second. Do you guys interpret a "M" as millions or thousands? Several individuals in my company use the single "M" for thousands, and the double "MM" to represent millions.

That's what I was thinking. 20$'s = twenty dollars; would be interesting if they added the apostrophe "S". I just did that for gits and shiggles.

They are writing it how it is spoken. Kind of like spelling out something phonetically.

It's pretty ignorant and rather annoying.

It's the same idiots that use sale instead of sell.

I'm looking to sale my last brain cell for 20$.

If you work in oil and gas you will want to specify volume using M for thousand and MM for million. However, I used to write M for million before I needed to make this distinction using the Roman numerals.

They do that because it is the correct abbreviation. Roman numerals, brah.
Sidenote: Those same people can probably also write in cursive.

I work at a bank. We use "M" for thousands and "MM" for millions. fricks with my head any time I read an article talking about money and they use "M" to mean millions.
