Russia once again playing it's Cold War games. Guess someone needs to tell Putin the 80's called and wants it's foreign policy back.

Two RAF Typhoons have been scrambled this afternoon to intercept two Russian bombers heading towards UK airspace.
The Ministry of Defence has confirmed two Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack aircraft have been spotted heading towards Britain with Typhoons sent out in response.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman confirmed that the Russian jets are currently in the UK's area of interest, but have not yet entered UK airspace.

All will be ok when Trump is making decisions to handle these things.

Do they have any original plane designs or just stuff they ripped off from us?

Don't they always fly prop bombers on these missions (Bears)?

The Tu-160 Blackjack looks very much like the B1B Lancer....

Blackjack

Lancer...

There are key differences though.
quote:

The B-1 and the Tu-160 are very similar aircraft in that they are both supersonic strategic bombers and missile carriers. There are a number of differences, however.

- The B-1 is used primarily as a strategic bomber where the Tu-160 is used primarily as a standoff missile platform.
- The Tu-160 was developed as a response to the B-1, and accordingly has a greater range and is slightly larger than the B-1. The B-1 has a greater combined payload based on its primary mission as a strategic bomber.
- Neither of the aircraft is considered a stealth aircraft. The bottom of the B-1 is painted with RAM (radar-absorbent material) which gives it a black look in the sky, and is generally painted gray or brown on top. The Tu-160 is painted in anti-flash white (a paint which reflects some nuclear radiation, meant to protect the crew).

The B-1 is nicknamed the "Bone" (B-One) by its pilots. The anti-flash white paint scheme of the Tu-160 is what gives it the moniker "the White Swan" by its pilots.

Sometimes they fly Tu-95's, sometimes they fly Tu-160's.

Hell, our B1's are older than the Tu-160. And the B-52 is even older than their turbo-prop driven Bears. Bombers have a very long lifespan nowadays.

Air frames yes, depending on what ones. Let's not forget the countless upgrades over the years to either the B1 or B52...hell or any other bird we have.

Standard Cold War operating procedure. Soviet ships used to park themselves in international waters just outside naval bases trying to provoke collisions.

At least our boys will be well trained when shite hits the fan...
