So I have a possible new job offer coming in early next week. I am scheduled to be on vacation the following week. I know it's bad to quit a job and then take vacation but what about taking vacation and then turning in a two week notice when I get back?

Edit - yeah I know I hit the submit button before I typed the post

Well, I've given notice and I've just told them to stuff it. Answer your question?

What I have always done was what made me comfortable. If I can do it and not think about it, like coulda, shoulda type thoughts then I do it.

Take the vacation and use it to insure you're ready for the change. If your heart is in it, come back refreshed and resign. Make sure your current employer understands that it was a tough decision and you are now confident it is the right one for you. This way no bridges are burned and you get your vacation to enjoy.

Last time I was in this scenario I quit the old job then started the new one 'on vacation' for my first two weeks. Seems like when the switch inevitable you just make the move.

Some companies won't let you use leave time once you turn in your notice. I'd wait until I got back.

This is what I've been thinking. I think I'm burning bridges anyway because they're going to be pissed that I'm leaving. I'm not going to competition but it will put them in a tough spot without me and I can't turn down a better job, a move up, and a lot more money.

If it benefited your company to cut your loose they would do it without worry.

Make the best choice for you.

Will you get reimbursed for unused vacation time? If not, burn as much as you can before leaving.

No offense but they'll be just fine without you.

The company was running before you got there and it will run after you leave...unless you founded the company then that statement doesn't apply to you

Offer to consult in the evenings until the old company is up to speed.

Use the extra money to buy a boat.
