Consider this a spinoff, but it doesn't have anything to do with gender assignment (avoidance).

By and large, I think mainstream Gen X & Millenials have done a horrible job naming their kids. All the -aidens, -adens, random y's replacing vowels, names that express a mood or motif rather than have any value of heritage.

Seems girls nowadays would rather name babies than people. Trying to be real cute.

Question - did you have a similar opinion of my generation's big names? Names I think millenials have en masse compared to older generations are names like Jennifer, Justin, Brandon, Kelly, Michelle, etc. Names you don't see as many older adults with as 20/30-somethings

Did they seem as cheesy and shitty at the time when they hit the scene, or is the recent trend I hinted on earlier in my post truly unique and horrifying?

My stance, if/when I have kids, is that if the name hasn't existed since before the 1950s, that it's a no-go. I'll stick mostly to the holy book or time-tested English names.

The top names lists from the last several years don't really agree with this premise. Yes, Aiden is on there. But by and large the most popular names are fairly "normal."

ETA: Nevermind, I think I see what you mean now.

I know a twin couple named Orangjello and Lemonjello who had a kid together and named the little mongoloid La-a. The dash be silent.

Meaning they pick a name that will amplify their cuteness while a baby, but not something that will particularly serve them later in life. Just my take on it.

Think he's saying girls pick names are are fine for newborns, but don't "carry well" into adulthood.

I have an opinion in this matter though (the thread as a whole). Not sure if I got time to type it though.

There have always been weird names. You just didn't hear about them over 20 years ago because of lack of the internet.

Some people also want to name their kid something that is unique, so i get the reasoning. I don't want my kids named the same as every other kid. That being said, I'm not going to make up a name. That's just dumb.

people just don't like naming their kids popular names from their youth

its why nobody named their kid Margarey in 1980

same reason why nobody names their kid Jessica in 2015

I knew like 8 Jessicas growing up

all those popular old names will come back around eventually
