My uncle is deceased. He was 7th Special Forces stationed at Fort Bragg.
He was the General's orderly. What does this mean?
He was a really cool guy and I can't ask him but I've heard it's kinda like an honor to be a General's orderly.
Thanks for the insight.

Orderlies are soldiers selected on account of their intelligence, experience, and soldierly bearing, to attend on generals, commanding officers, officers of the day, and staff officers, to carry orders, mess &c. They may be taken from the guard or put on permanently while the duty lasts: in the latter case they are reported on daily duty and are excused from all other duty that would interfere with their duty as orderlies.

Rhode, that's a big honor honestly.

You should be proud of your grandfather.

It was my uncle Soldier.

After his service he became a corporate pilot. He flew Lear Jets for CEOs.

It seems like he was groomed for this in the military. Does this make sense?

People trusted him to get them from point A to point B??

He wasn't a pilot in the military. He used his GI bill to take flying lessons while stationed at Bragg.

Sorry.

Read it wrong.

Still, that's a good gig you get hand picked for. Had a buddy do the Aide de Camp job for sometime.

He was hand picked by the GO. Not a job you normally interview for

Dawg,

Being a General's orderly is typically something reserved for Soldiers that are top notch as it can be a career maker in the Army. If your uncle was one, he served honorably and to a very high standard.

An orderly is an extremely demanding position usually reserved for Soldiers that have demonstrated a record of success and thought to have much potential. Also, an orderly is not a personal servant or or anything like that (forbidden by law), rather an orderly supports the senior officer's professional aspects of his life.

Yeah, it's a good gig...if the O-7 isn't a jerk...

Sometimes they become the General officer's only real confidante. We all need people to bounce ideas off of...
