How many of you pursued your master's degree at the same institution where you completed your undergraduate studies?

I'm contemplating whether or not to take this opportunity to leave Louisiana for the first time and see what else is out there.

For those of you who went elsewhere, did you find the exposure to new faculty members furthered your education in a significant manner? Was the experience more beneficial from a networking standpoint?

Different type of grad school, but similar perspective.

It's a pretty big fork in the road when you finish med school and figuring out where you want to go for residency. The first fork is whether you want to try to stay at your home institution that you know pretty well or go to a different one. It's not entirely your choice, but as long as you are competitive you can guide where you go.

I made the choice to leave the LSU system for residency and couldn't have been happier. I've gotten to learn a completely different system, work with people who had a different thought process than those I learned from in med school, and as you mentioned earlier, networked in an entirely different state and make connections I never would have been able to before.

Can't hack it in the real world so you're going to stay in school forever?

You're such a courageous little snowflake.

It's almost always of benefit, for myriad reasons, to move on to an another institution for a higher degree.

ETA: Did undergrad at a public, Southern university and grad at a private, regional Catholic university up north. Doing so opened the doors to the private sector to me.

Me. Currently in the MBA program at LSU after receiving my bachelor degrees from LSY a few years ago.

Go out of state. I will probably end up moving back to New Orleans when I start a family to be close to my parents, but there's a lot of opportunities outside of Louisiana. It'll be a good experience.

LSU for undergrad and Law school. LSU law has its benefits but I think I would've enjoyed getting an opportunity to go somewhere else. since I wanted to return to LA and have the best opportunity to pass the bar exam I chose LSU over Loyola and Ole Miss.

Yes, but I also chose a grad school because the program there was better suited / tailored to my specific interests than my undergrad school was.

I went to the same school for both bachelors and master's. I do wish I had gone out of state for a different perspective; however, I was accepted into all 6 PhD programs that I applied to.

I'm unemployed now FWIW.

Left LSU and went to school in Atlanta. Totally different experience, but I wouldn't change it. Got to branch out and get out of my comfort zone. Plus, establish a TON of networking opportunities.

These are some of the driving factors to my current preference. I would prefer to stay somewhere at least culturally familiar yet far enough from home to help break away from the safety net of family and friends.

You could always just go straight for the doctorate, without any undergrad or masters, like I did.

Having been outside of Louisiana before, I can assure you that there's nothing out there. Check out Google Earth if you want proof.

I left for one grad degree but returned for a second. It is useful to leave and broaden your horizons, but honestly, it is a financial decision first and foremost. Think about where you want to work after. LSU doesn't have great reach outside the Southeast, but if you want to stay in the area, leaving may not be as important. What type of program are you looking at?
