The other day someone told me that the majority of women that get married will legally change their names by dropping their given middle names and adopting their maiden name as their new middle name.

I always thought women kept their original middle name, adopted their new last name, and perhaps in conversation might refer to themselves as Sara Smith-Jones etc.

Am I right, or am I clueless about this? BTW I'm not an expert in this matter b/c I think marriage is stupid and a scam.

So their middle name is just gone forever? And now they have a stupid sounding middle name like Julie Gaforkian Smith?

My wife just dropped her maiden name completely, but she goes by her middle name. I think my mom did the replacement.

My family is Mormon and they just don't give middle names to girls. My mom didn't have a middle name until she was married.

It gets really funny when the last name is one of the oddest medieval occupations.

One of my friend's mother's full name is L.... Clinkscales Forehand.

By the way, Clinkscales was a prison guard. Not sure about Forehand.

Times are changing. Many women aren't giving up their maiden names at all. From a practical standpoint, I find this annoying. On the other hand, I'm very proud of my last name and would not want to change it either.

It's a preference thing. My mother kept her middle and went with four names because people she grew up with knew her by her first and middle name. My sister dropped her middle name completely because she thought it made things crowded for a legal name. I don't think there are any hard rules.

I dropped my maiden name and kept my middle name so my initials would stay the same

Didn't you use to date picolo or somebody else that posts here? Not that it's relevant to the topic, necessarily. Carry on.

This is what my wife did, I would not accept anything else.
