re: Question about retaking LSAT after having already been to law schoolPosted by JohnnyKilroy on 3/21/17 at 10:12 pm to Paul Allen
151 is really nothing special. Take a prep class, do a shitload of old tests and 160 should be your minimum.

due to the oversaturation of the law market and competition
you need at least a 160

Yeah 1 point above average is nothing to brag about. Definitely going to prep this time, took it last time only after looking at LSAC practice LSAT's

Not trying to dog you. Just put a solid month or two of consistent study and you'll save yourself tens of thousands of dollars and have many more options. A 151 with little/no real prep is fine. Just prepare correctly this time around and you will blow that score out of the water.
The LSAT is probably the easiest test to learn it off the grad school entrance exams.

Spend some money on a class
The classes help those who don't test well. I taught LSAT classes for a couple of years when I was in law school.
My Ft. Worth class was the most interesting. Had a true tennis pro gigolo in the class - had a beautiful girlfriend but he also serviced the rich women at the tennis club. Another guy was very annoying - asked tons of inane questions - but piled guilt on me when he wrote me the nicest letter about how I helped him. Then, after he became a lawyer and had practiced ten years, he sent me another nice letter. So, I got to feel like a real douche twice (I know, I ought to feel like a douche ever day).

Western Michigan, dick I busted my buddy's balls that his pseudo law school's new affiliation gave him a much better football team than vtech.
I've been out 20 years . . . I thought at least some law schools will average your scores if you retake the test, assuming the first test score is valid longer than 3 years.
If you plan to re-take it, I would recommend an intense prep course. (I'm sure the prep course formats have changed.) I did the Kaplan weekend intensive prep course when I was in MBA school and it worked. It took @ 2 months.
The weekend before the LSAT I scored slightly above average on the last diagnostic test taken and was surprised by a 167 on the actual LSAT.

I have no idea how this works, whether your previous GPA will be held by the new school, whether you will have to disclose that you blew out of law school and that you only made a 151. BUT, a 151 is a bad score. If all the other stuff doesn't close off the doors to higher echelon schools (and I would check on that asap) then I would say retake it. You need at minimum a 160, preferably in the upper 160s, which is very achievable. That should get you some money. And going to law school and graduating with no debt will put you WAY ahead of your peers.
If you don't have to take it again, you can get into Southern with those credentials no problem.
I went to Southern passed the bar currently practicing in Baton Rouge. People will give you shite about going to Southern, but it's really because they don't know what they're talking about.
You'll be laughing when you graduate with less than half the debt some of your buddies will have.
