Yesterday, when I left for lunch I backed into (barely tapped) a truck of a co-worker. Got out, inspected both vehicles (zero damage) and went to tell her immediately. Asked her to double check for damage, she said not worry, no harm no foul.

I ended up telling one of my other co-workers and, since it happened on company property (refinery), he said I might want to tell my manager in case there's any report I have to complete. I didn't see the need but end up telling him. He calls safety and they tell me I have to go into medical and take a drug/alcohol test.

I have a prescription for Adderall and take 1-2 a week when I really need to get things done/during big projects. Anyway, I took one yesterday. I'm not worried about my job being in jeopardy as I'll have the script. My question is, if (assuming it will) it does come back positive but I produce the script/tell them up front, do you think medical will still tell my boss? Or can they? Again, not worried about my job but no one knows I occasionally take this and more than anything, I'm embarrassed about my boss finding out/thinking I can't perform without it/etc.

First off you shouldn't even had to take a drug test as no company equipment was damaged, no one was injured, and it was your personal vehicle. As far as your drug test results, unless you fail your test then HR/medical has no reason to let the results of your test be known to anyone.

If you fail, the MRO will call you. Produce a valid script and you will be fine. Your boss will probably know you failed and had to be contacted by the MRO. He/she won't know why you failed though.

Most companies has someone who is notified, and that someone (usually a safety coordinator or doctor) will contact the employee directly. If the employee has a script that person will usually tell the employee to have the pharmacist fax something to them. A proof of prescription, I guess. The boss is seldom notified of anything unless something is fishy or the employee was tested on demand. At least that is how they do it at my work.

I don't see how an "as needed" tangent can be given to an amphetamine, tho. If you get it filled regularly then there is no problem. But if you got it filled 6 mos to a year ago they may not like that. Depending on your daily performance they can make your life hell or not give a shite.

They will tell your HR. Did you inform them you have a prescription beforehand?

So many adults are prescribed to adderall now days that's nothing to be embarrassed about.

Honestly they might not even ask you about it because because so many people are prescribed. I would think they should really only be looking for and worried about hard drugs, weed, or prescription drugs that are downers like Xanax or opiates.

When I hired on and went through the physics/drug test (1 year ago) I disclosed it to medical.

The script was actually filled on Tuesday. I just love this job and my bosses, I really don't want them to know of anything.

Agreed that this is overkill. Personal vehicles, no damage, etc. Now I've got to go there this morning on my Friday off (get every other Friday off).

What do you think adderall shows up as on a drug screen? It shows up as amphetamines (because that's what it is) which is considered a "hard drug".

It will come back positive and they will inform human resources. HR will get with your supervisor and they'll ask for proof of prescribed meds, without proof you can be terminated or some employers offer rehabilitation programs. In other words, you gone.

It's all about your company's policy on when to drug test. But ultimately they can test if they want. I can't imagine medical can tell anyone what medication you are on in any situation. That's got to fall under HIPPA laws.

It's on company property. It doesn't matter if it was a personal vehicle.

If it's just a cheap drug test with a test strip that changes colors after a minute then yeah. If his employer makes him go to a lab to take a piss test like mine does then they can not only tell the difference between what type of amphetamine you're taking, but they can tell if you're taking name brand or generic adderall if they want.

My company requires us to tell them about any prescriptions we're taking. If you fail a drug test then say, hey here's my script for that, you won't have a job. For your sake I hope your company doesn't have the same policy

On the job drug screens are for five substances only. Once you start talking and asking about reporting the company pretty much has no choice but to formalize the reporting. Private property is the reason here and it does not have to be company vehicle as someone stated earlier.

Anytime you take a drug test, the results go directly to your boss or his boss. I would get in front on this ASAP and tell your boss.

You work in a plant, probably FOR the corp, not contracted? You should've drove home and not said shite. If your company has adderal as one of it no-no's you might be a go-go's. Don't lie or change your story, because you're not done talking to other bosses.

ETA: I didn't mean go home and leave work at lunch time.
