I don't have much experience with eBay and I figured some of you probably do. I purchased an item and sent it back when I received it because it wasn't what the seller had described. He told me I'd get a full refund as soon as he got the shipment back. Fast forward to 2 days ago, USPS tried to deliver and the dude apparently wasn't home. Haven't heard anything since then. Payment went through PayPal, for the record.

Anyone know the best next move to get the refund? Should I try and bypass him or be patient?

I'd be patient if he just hasn't received it yet.

Payment went through PayPal,

prepare thy anus.

visa would hook you up in a heartbeat with a refund and go after the seller.

paypal fricking sucks and you'll eventually give up trying to get your money back through them.

Give it a few days. Then work with PayPal. You will need to give them the tracking number.

not surprised that you hate something else useful

i've had a few problems on ebay and paypal has always done me right

if paypal has a fault, its that they side with the buyer too often and sellers can get screwed over

i get that. but its paypal you have to work with.

if you bought it straight through visa, they wouldn't hesitate to take the charge off.

paypal otoh is like going through dante's 9 circles of hell.

believe me i know. i tried to get a $5 refund on a questionable purchase and after 2-3 months of jumping through their bullshite hoops and talking to an endless stream of idiots on the other end of the phone i gave up.

que?

do this: try & get a refund on a digital purchase (app purchase, coupon code, iphone unlock service, etc.) and you'll quickly find out paypal doesn't cover that.

nobody buys digital goods these days right?

i'm talking firsthand experience here. go read their legalese or better yet...i will find the email they sent me after 3 months of haggling where they said 'sorry go frick yourself'.

over $5.

i don't have any experience with digital purchases

i have filed a complaint two or three times about orders I didn't receive or something was wrong, and within a week or so, the resolution and refund was complete

seriously?

you telling me you knew this before i just posted that?

you do realize 'digital items' includes probably 50% of purchases these days..apps, music, services such as unlocking phones, etc.

thats a mighty big loophole.

solution? dont buy digital products via paypal. stick with visa.

lesson learned but i bet 95% of the people on here don't know they're not protected.

if he has lots of good feedback, Id be patient and try to handle it directly with him

is he also not responding to you about why he wasn't able to receive the item?

the only times I've filed disputes were when sellers wouldn't contact me back

No, I just worked it out with the seller because he gave full refunds within 14 days of receipt. I sent it back the first day.
