moving from LA to TX (not me)

service offered by a professional company (4 star rating on Yelp).

includes packing, all transport fees, and unpacking (with $10,000 in insurance coverage)

cost is about $1400. seems reasonable but i've never priced this service

That's what I was thinking. Better check out any reviews.

SFP,

How many workers are with that truck?

I paid that to move from Tyler to North Dallas. Came with 4 workers.

It all depends on the amount being moved. An apartment? 3700 s.f. home loaded with furniture? The range varies greatly, depending upon the furniture moved.

How many actual miles?

We talking like Vinton to Orange or Slidell to El Paso?

That seems like a good deal. We're moving from Atlanta to Austin next week and Mayflower is charging $6,100 to pack and move our stuff. We don't have a big house 2 bdrm and an office. They were the least expensive of the quotes that we received form the major companies.

I paid that much to move 3 miles across town in Lafayette last year.

approximately 300 miles

while there is a 4 star rating, i'm seeing some really bad reviews. apparently the service is nothing more than a booking agent and they use 3rd party movers. sometimes there isn't clear communication b/w those 2 and the weight estimate is way off and upon delivery the movers won't unpack until the balance is paid

I assume you mean loading and unloading the truck. As in you've already packed everything into boxes and the movers are just going to put those boxes (and furniture) into the truck then take them out again.

As to the price - my brother moved a two bedroom apartment (2nd floor) from New Orleans to Baton Rouge and paid around $900. The truck had two guys that did all of the furniture (including wrapping furnishings and protecting doorways and walls) and all of the boxes in one day. They were bonded and did good work.

Way too cheap.

I paid $400 for 3 guys to move my 1 BR apartment to my 2 BR Townhouse and they were 2 miles apart.

They knocked that shite out with the quickness though. Worthyevery penny.

I got fricked on a move like this. They billed hourly and talked my wife into it while I wasn't there. They said it should only take 6-8 hours and it was $100/hour. They showed up way late, like 12 noon with a small sized uhaul. Obviously not big enough to fit our shite not even close. The whole routine was scripted and done many times. Once they get you nervous and its late in the day they ask if you want a 2nd truck that "just got freed up". Guess what, you have to sign another contract for $100/hour for the 2nd truck. Once they got to my new house they told me cash only and it was 11pm. They would not unload my stuff until I came up with the cash. I had to be out of old house that day, we were closing the following day. I should have called the police but didn't think of it tbh. I was fuming.

About two months later they were on the news and were busted for those tactics and stealing stuff. fricking crooks.
