Let Putin make headlines and cause his country to move up on the terrorism "hit list".
I like the lower profile air strikes and black-ops approach that minimizes American risk and places an incentive for the local citizens to defend themselves on the ground.

Low oil prices are screwing Russia hard right now. Putin's throwing us a bone in exchange for help in getting the price back up. He owns Russia's biggest oil company. So, he has a large interest in oil prices.
