What to do when pulled over- f/b video link
Many of us already do this, but if we as a whole did this, it would dramatically decrease odds of tragedies like what happened in Minnesota. It's more than hands on steering wheel 10 & 2
Added the f/b video share disclaimer for those of you that don't like that medium

Here. It's 5 min or so after I posted... Let me add another downvote to the one that's already there for me trying to share knowledge. Video compiled by 2 AA males (not that it should matter)
For the few folks out there being negative for no reason at all.. Ima pray for you. Take it easy and God bless

I get what you are trying to say however the fact that citizens should have to do anything to not get shot is mind boggling. Nothing short of presenting a direct threat to the officers or others immediate safety should be grounds to discharge their firearm.

Is reaching for a gun a threat? Is not listening to commands from the officer and reaching for something unknown a threat? Put yourself in a police officers position. He doesn't know the person. They might be good or they might be bad. He doesn't know their intentions. He goes through this several times a shift. Often alone on the side of a dark road. Come on man just listen to what he says, obey his commands and always keep your hands where he can see them. It's not rocket science. Does anyone really think cops want to shoot people? Have you ever watched the videos where the person pulled over jumps out and shoots or tackles the cop? In most of those cases the cop was giving the person the benefit of the doubt. Crazy, scary videos. How can a cop not be tense?

Do people really need a video to tell them to not act like a jackass during a traffic stop? Christ. It's not hard.

Apparently Philandro Castile did what he was supposed to and still got killed.

good advice to keep hands on the wheel and license and registration in an easy place to reach. But really the best way to avoid getting shot is doing what cops tells you to do.

cop says in the video, I told him not to reach for his licence. So he didn't do what cop told him to do.

Good grief. At what point did it become a civilian's responsibility to make sure a cop's adrenaline is low?
Be respectful and follow instructions, but all the hands out license out don't reach for something bullshite should be a cops problem to deal with. If you can't perform your job because you are so afraid that I'm reaching for a gun instead of my license when I've not been a threat otherwise, you need to find a new fricking job.

How's about: try your best to not act a plumb fool.
Let's go with that.

How about this scenario:
Cop stops a car that resembles one that was used in a driveby. Cop tells driver to roll down his window and stick both hands outside, then open the door from the outside and get out. But the outside door latch is broken on your hooptie vehicle and has to be opened from the inside. You yell that you can't do it, but he doesn't understand and yells at you again to "Open the door from the outside!" He's getting agitated and you're getting agitated. To him, you're refusing to comply, but if you reach inside to open the door, welp, you know what that looks like to a police officer who's already nervous. shite has just got real over a misunderstanding.
I'm just saying it's not not always as simple as an instructional video. The police have a hard job, and it's not always their fault. OTOH they are not without culpability in a lot of cases.

Clearly sometimes things happen and they are enough of the cop's fault that they are legally or otherwise culpable. I think that's probably the case in the Minnesota shooting even though there's apparently no video of the shooting itself (the circumstantial evidence supporting this is the clean record of the victim and the hysterical emotional state of the policeman on tape).
But the number of these incidents contributed to mostly or in part because civilians refuse to follow very simple instructions from the police is staggering. There does need to be better training for many police. Some should simply be removed from the force because they are temperamentally unsuitable - but there also has to be some education for the general public.
People somehow don't seem to understand that initiating a hand to hand struggle with a policeman is a potentially life or death struggle. The cop has no idea if the aggressive person trying to do him harm is going to take his gun and kill him - and, on the basis of the aggression, has to make the assumption that this is the case. Even though I dislike many cops I still obey their instructions because they not only have the legal right to make many requests but they also have a difficult job to do that sometimes puts their life at risk.

quote:how about yelling "i can't, the latch is broken". Was that hard? Jeez.
You yell that you can't do it,
Use common sense, don't be a dbag and follow instructions. It's really that simple.

Yes, yes they do.

Or yell that while pointing at the handle at the same time. Some ignorant people have difficulty communicating the simplest of messages using verbalization and gesturing simultaneously.
