When I got married I got a tat of barbwire on my "wedding finger". Very classy if I say so myself.

Mine is Tungsten. I have no idea if that's hard or soft.

Sterling silver is what I got.

Good thinking. Working on a train is dangerous.

Tungsten wedding bands are not made out of pure tungsten - instead they are made out of tungsten carbide. Pure tungsten is too difficult to work with, so tungsten that is used for industrial applications - and in jewelry - is compounded into its carbide form.
Tungsten carbide is created by combining an equal number of tungsten and carbon atoms. The result is a very fine powder which is then mixed with a binder - like nickel or cobalt - to create a compound which can be crafted into different shapes - like razor blades and wedding rings.
Tungsten carbide rings retain many of the characteristics of pure tungsten metal - including a high melting point and high tensile strength. The rings too are extremely resistant to scratching, and have a light gray color which can be darkened with brush finishing processes.
Tungsten carbide wedding bands have moderate heat and electrical conductivity properties - so if this is a concern for you, it might be best to go with a wooden wedding band or a stainless steel wedding ring (or remove the band when working in a capacity where electricity and heat pose a safety issue).
It is a common myth that tungsten carbide rings cannot be removed during an emergency - but they can be removed in the event of an emergency using regular jewelry removal tools.
Tungsten wedding bands are also somewhat heavy - just a touch heavier than 14k gold.

I'm good to go then.

I know I waste at least $50 a year on tungsten sliding weights for bass fishing

That's how they talked my wife into getting mine in beryllium

This is what I have. Tungsten carbide plain band. I liked the silver bands but wanted something that didn't scratch easily. Going on 7 years, I wear it every day and it looks brand new.
It is a bit heavier than a typical metal but I like it.

No you don't. You're clueless and helpless and get made fun of behind your back by your superiors and everyone else that realizes what you are. And you're fat and limp dicked and have high blood pressure and cholesterol. Don't kid yourself.

just got off the phone with a doc friend. They had to 86 a guys finger last night because he had a hand injury and the ER is equipped to take off rings but titanium is too hard.
Choose wisely I guess.
Absolutely.
I'll add another PSA. WHENEVER you injure your hand. Take the rings off. That should be the first thought. Also guys take yours off once in a while. Just to make sure you still can. It's a lovely thought to put it on at your wedding and leave it on til you die, but? Old age, fatness, arthritis.
Also, for women. DO NOT get wedding bands with diamonds all the way around. Leave a space or two at the bottom of the ring that can be cut. If you get injured or a wasp sting, there isn't a damned thing an ER is gonna have to cut diamonds.

This is why I went with Tungsten.

I know a guy that got it caught slipping down a ladder. And didn't jimmy Fallon do his in the kitchen? It happens a lot of ways other than just catching it on a machine.
