PSA: Louisiana concealed carry licenses

Based upon the information that I received yesterday, approved concealed carry licenses are taking anywhere between 45 - 120 days to receive.
Wide window, I know ... but this is down considerably from late last year when up to 10 months was the expected wait time.

I thought it's been about a 3 month turnaround for a while

They're fast tracking them so the cops have backup when the zoo goes apeshit over the Alton Sterling cops not being indicted.

Don't know. You could be right.
The last time I had checked was late August / September and 10 months was the standard reply I received.
So, in my mind, they are making progress.

I hope this is the case. Perhaps they're under promising and over delivering?

I have to renew mine in 2018, first time I'm renewing. How does that compare? Is it as simple as getting your training certificate and mailing in the money, or is it a more cumbersome process?

may sound stupid but I assume you can only do the online app after you have done the course?

I applied in Feb, got it in Oct, 2016

Not sure. This is the first time I have applied for a concealed carry permit. I've always had a gun (didn't always carry) - however I want to be "legal."
I applied for the lifetime membership so I'll be interested in the "renewal" replies.

I would think so. I ended up going to a class one Saturday. We were taught by an assistant police chief in a very small town.

Might depend if you're renewing or getting your license for the first time

I wish I would have done the lifetime membership, and if an option, I will definitely renew it that way.

I always hear the 5 year membership is better.

Again, that's incredible. I did everything yesterday at the LA State Police HQs.
Notarized, fingerprints, paid fee and provided proof of taking training class.

I spoke with a gentleman yesterday and he only applied for a 5 year membership. When pressing him for more information, he said at his age it would not be worth it.
He later shared with me that he was 50 years old.

Then you should have yours within 2 weeks unless you have arrests, divorce etc. The way you did it takes no time at all. And I hope you did the fingerprints there also. Otherwise you'll wait an extra 3-5 months.
