Record all conversations with your iPhone. If you are fired, you will have a case against your employer. I wouldn't let up on the guy you mentioned.

If you did a performance review one on one he should be calling you stupid.
Never ever do this again, especially if it is a negative review, never ever. Consider this a lesson learned.
As for HR, they are likely required to meet with you due to policy, for the love of god please say the review was turned into HR BEFORE you met with this person.
If so stay calm, explain that you made an error in judgement doing this one on one and you learned from your mistake, all should be well.
If there is no proof that this review was performed prior to your meeting you are fricked as this just became he said she said and could turn out poorly for the both of you.
If there were witnesses to this meeting you should have no issues if you acted in a professional manner.

HR at several levels including my leadership all reviewed it prior. I'm good on that front.

For real you should not comment about this online or to your coworkers. Just let HR investigate. It'll blow over.
