Good vibes headed your way. NICU docs and nurses are the best. I know first hand, so solidarity brother. Put your trust in them and your faith in whatever almighty you subscribe to. The universe tends to favor the positive.

Prayers to you and the wife.

My wife had the same issue but was a little further along. She delivered our baby girl at 32 weeks. She weighed 2lbs 14 ounces. She spent 28 days in NICU. She will turn 5 on Friday. The only long term effect so far has been some vision issues but she has had surgery to correct it and so far has not needed glasses.

YOur little girl will spend some time in NICU being born that early. Take every chance you have to do Kangaroo Care. That is where you hold her against your body under your shirt. It is great bonding time and apparantly that skin to skin contact is therapeutic for the child.

Your wife will probably be an emotional wreck going home without a baby. Comfort her and let her emotions run their course. If she doesnt get better shortly suggest she talk to a professional.

I guarantee the LSU/BAMA game will be the last thing on your mind this weekend. Your schedule will revolve around NICU visiting hours and getting some rest.

But as others have said, NICU nurses and doctors are amazing professionals.

Best of luck and prayers!

My wife is 35 weeks pregnant, man and it is stressful. I can't imagine the stress that you are going through. Praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time. God bless your wife and daughter.

Best of luck.

My first son was born at 24 weeks, 3 days and weighed 1 lb, 3 oz. He made it through a seven month hospital stay in the NICU before finally coming home. The best advice I can give you is to keep reminding yourself that its a marathon and not a sprint. Don't get too high for the good moments, and don't get too low for the bad ones.

My wife is an NICU nurse. They've had 24/25 weekers make it just fine with minimal to zero problems later on. It is going to be a long road but the things they can do now for premature babies is amazing. Best of luck and keep us updated when you can.

the doctors in the NICU (at least at womans) are the best (both of my girls were in the NICU)

Prayers for you and your family.

26 weeks is very early, but modern medicine has come a really long way in NICU care now. I have occasionally worked in the NICU caring for babies that had been born at 26 weeks and they were doing just great(I cared for them when they were just about to be discharged home to mom and dad). Also, my cousin's girls (twins who are now 13) were born at 25 weeks and you would never know they were born premature.

Think positive thoughts and just be there for your wife. Don't be afraid to ask any questions of the doctors and nurses in the NICU. There are no such thing as stupid questions in the NICU, remember that.
