Organized little operation that hit santa Maria, maplewood and areas off old Jefferson last night. Windows shattered in our hood, guns stolen. Also opened peoples garages and broke into cars via the system installed in cars parked outside.

Many have them on video from security system.

Summary: do not leave anything in your car even if locked.

Better strategy: only leave shite in your car that you can live without or easily replace, and keep it unlocked.

Don't leave anything in plain sight. Last time my car got broken into in Metairie they stole about 8$ in change and left my costas dangling from the rear-view mirror. got lucky that time.

Capital Heights/Webb Park/Goodwood area has seen way more than normal lately. Usually every few months you'll hear of a report of a string of them occurring. We're up to about 6 or 7 in the last two weeks. Casing is almost nightly.

My neighborhood within that area has a pretty solid security camera setup. Think they've caught quite a few people within the year or so that it's been up.

Hopefully they came through.

Santa Maria has a good set up, and a lot of people have their own surveillance but that didn't stop them.

Ps nothing in Anyone's car was in plain sight. Nothing to take out of mine. But I agree that even leaving your gun in your locked car within garage is a bad idea.

I look forward to the day when these thieves get lit up by someone who is Up or awakened.

I'm learning our neighbors are idiots. There's multiple examples of them getting caught in the act and the homeowner scaring them off and either not calling BRPD, or waiting to call them.

Wow. Not the type of neighbors I want. They must garner sympathy for the scum. Or are lazy. Either way, I'm sure the thieves appreciated the warm welcome, come back anytime message that sends.

Looks like I'll finally stop being lazy and install my cameras this weekend. Been sitting in a box in my garage since mid December.

No sympathy. How stupid can you be to leave a gun in an unattended vehicle at night? Bring it in every night.

That being said they hit us pretty hard a few weekends in a row last year, were in a neighborhood off 929, they took my dads propane tank off his bbq pit and a lot of sunglasses and cell phones out of cars.

Yeah, I agree. I wouldn't leave anything of value in my car. Which, mine was broken into but nothing taken. In all fairness, though, the person I know with gun stolen had his car in his closed garage with the car locked.

Crew community should come together and have a public hanging when they catch them.

They caught 2 of them a year or two ago doing this, one was the grandson of the GM of the company I was working for at the time, they left him in jail for like 5 months because they were so embarrassed of him

They seem to never catch these folks. You can have cameras all day long and proactive HOA neighborhood patrols and it still isn't enough. Police come by and jot down some info, give you a business card and that's the end of story.
