"I feel like I don't matter," she said. "I feel like the big businesses are the people who matter now with that law. If it is passed, I'll move. Sorry Louisiana, not going to be here any longer. I don't feel protected if this law comes into place. I feel like every single person will just come up and say 'Hey, is that a service dog? Let me see every form of identification you have.'"

"Why make it harder for people who already are struggling with a disability? What about children with autism? Do you know how hard it's going to be? Every time a parent is stopped and they have to take out proof, that child is going to break down. That's not fair," said Davidson. "Would you say, 'Sir I'm sorry, I'm going to need a license for that wheelchair or do you have a certification to operate that (oxygen) tank? No.Why a service dog? (Trigger) is a piece of medical equipment, just like a wheelchair."

i agree i think private entities should regulate their own "service dog" regulations

i'm curious how this would intersect with the ADA, though

Most things people claim as a disability these days, isn't a disability.

Life isn't fair.

That being said, why not just let private business regulate this for themselves. If a gets out of hand, state government can back the local business' right to set their own rules.

I'm sure this is because many have abused this.

Last week some woman came up to the peds floor to visit her nephew in the hospital. CARRYING A FREAKING CHIHUAHUA in her hands. We had to tell her no dogs allowed and she quickly says "Oh he's my service dog, I need him as my emotional companion."

I'm all for legit service dogs though. I realize they can be a great asset for those with certain disabilities(stroke dogs, etc).

I'm not against dogs in the hospital either..pet therapy is wonderful and studies have shown the huge physical and mental health benefits it provides to the patients.

Yeah it is amazing how those dogs can use their sense of smell to tell if the person's sugar levels are too high or low.

I've watched shows on tv talking about how dogs can accurately smell out cancer cells in lab specimens as well. Fascinating stuff right there.

This country is so arse backwards that you need an ID card to retain a service dog, but it is not necessary to vote.

That piece of legislation died in committee on April 6. Why are they doing a story on it now?
