Post job interview: whose turn is it?

So I went in for an interview last week and it went really well, I thought. I get an email Wednesday from them asking me to call whenever I can. I have to wait until I get a break with my current job so I get away to a "secure" location and I get the secretary. She transfers the call, it rings a handful of times, and I get his voicemail. I leave a message, assuming the guy is busy (he said as much in his email), so I wait about 15 minutes in my car and eventually have to get back to work.
Since then, no phone call OR email from him, so the wife and I were pondering last night who needs to make the next move. Do I try to call back, or have I done my part and it's on them? In my head, I keep treating this like getting a girls number: don't want to bug them and/or seem too eager, but I don't want to screw this up because I didn't seem eager enough.
What's the next move? Wait or call? Or perhaps an email?

Just call back, teenage girl days are over if you are looking for a job.

I just want to make sure there isn't proper protocol for situations like this.

Call back each day until you get someone. Show you want the job.

Call them again today. If no answer again, send a follow up email and put the ball in their court.

I would just sit tight. People are on vacation this time of the year and they may be waiting on someone to get back to work to make a final decision. If you left a voicemail you have done your part. Good luck

Forgot to mention, I did call back before I went inside from my break, just making sure that she knew I got the voicemail because typically if they are busy, the secretary will come back on tell you so, asking if you'd like to leave a message. She said she would let him know that I did leave a message.

its Christmas time...the manager is probably in and out and maybe even on PTO...wait until Monday then try again...if nothing, call next Monday, the first day back after Christmas weekend..weird time to be working through this process...we have a similar situation going on with a guy that we are trying to bring in...

We were chit-chatting before the interview and he said they were taking hardly any time off for the holidays, even working Christmas eve, tons of work. So I know they are in the office, just really busy.

You're screwed, DD. They've probably seen this thread by now and noted that you used who's instead of whose. Sorry, dude.

Yea because no body wants to hire someone that's eager to come to work for them

depends on the type of job/company culture.
generally if i left a VM and email this week I wouldnt circle around again until Monday afternoon/Tuesday next week with anything. let them finish off this week, and kick off next and see if follow up with me was part of either of those.
i have in sales interviews with companies that i know expect their sales people to be over the top with follow up, mirrored that approach to the interview process though.

Not sure what you're talking about...

That was more in line with my "getting a girl's number" analogy. No, I don't think seeming eager is a bad thing. I just know there are rules to these kind of proceedings so I don't want to make the wrong step.

Yes, this time is usually one of two situations for most companies. Either they're really busy, or they're really slow. Either way, it is also a very odd time to hire someone. Companies who are typically busy during this time, hire people in advance of the holidays. Those who are slow are usually looking for hiring after the 1st.
As many have said already, call back until you speak with someone personally.

If you want the job call back today and follow up with a e-mail, on both of them, indicate YOUR availability.
You could also ask the secretary that, he e-mailed you asking you to call him and that you are just seeing if he will be in the office today.
