My boss is about to trade in his Cayenne. I told my brother who is interested in buying it. Anyone here have one or any experience with them? It's a '14 with only 16K miles.

Link? I've been casually looking at them for a while and I've yet to come across anything about them being maintenance nightmares.

Best SUV I have driven. I drive them from time to time as a loaner when I have oil changes done.

I have owned a couple of high end German cars and he needs to be aware of the maintenance costs. These aren't Chevy trucks. You really need to follow the service schedules and parts cost can be insane. I had a big Mercedes SUV that took Mobil 1 synthetic. With the V8 and dual turbos it held some insane quantity of oil. Like 8 or 10 quarts. The stupid oil change with filter and all ran up to $500. $70 air filters, $500 tires. My current sedan has had three windshields at $1500 per. shite adds up.

I have a 911. Maintenance not bad at all. But then again I drove less than 1000 miles / year.

I'm interested. I've been looking for a beater to put less miles on my Bugatti.

I think they are ranked pretty highly in terms of how badly they depreciate.

I was getting a Mercedes a few years back. Two friends told me to expect to pay $500 per every maintenance issue. I passed on the vehicle and stayed American.

well, you can expect decent reliability from porsche, but if anything were to break, it will cost an insane amount.
As others have said, maintenance is expensive.
If your bro is serious about buying a used porshce, do it from a dealer with CPO. since its a VAG vehicle, they usually have a 4-6 cpo warranty or up 100,000 miles, which could end up saving a lot of money. Or honestly, buy a used on from carmax and get their warranty. It can also save you a ton if something breaks and carmax will cover the whole bill. I know 3rd party warranties can scare people off but carmax is legit. Check out Doug DeMuro's videos on youtube for some good info.
Finally, if you buy from a VAG dealer, you can usually get a service plan which is a reduced rate than paying for each service individually. Again, can save you some money.
I wouldnt bother with buying a porsche that new from a individual when there are plenty of options out there.
