So after 3 pages half love it half hate it. The good news is the house I'm looking at comes with a pool and was just redone new pumps, new plaster so I would hope that would at least buy me a little time until little shite starts breaking. It's hot in New Orleans and I'm still young seems worthwhile to me.

Built mine when the kids were 10, 5, and 1. Tons of good times and wouldn't trade them in for anything. 12 years later, started being used less and less and by year 18 it was used a few times a year. Maintenance became an issue and happily waived goodbye when we sold the house.
If you can afford it and have kids then go for it.

I never thought I wanted a pool and then I bought a house with a pool. Our family loves the pool.
As with anything else in life you will get out of it what you put into it. If you are a DIY person who isn't afraid to learn basic water chemistry, and you are willing to stay on top of the chemistry then you will enjoy your pool. If you're not then the pool will cost you a bunch of money and will be a constant pain in your arse.

I'd rather a pond.

I have a year round heated pool in KW. I pay $100 a month for weekly cleaning and chemicals. I find it much more useful than and practical than a boat. I've got no designs on acquiring a boat. Everyone here feels like they need a boat. Personally I wouldn't use it enough, but the pool we use all the time (except for this shitty cold winter).
