how about you call it a shar-pei mix. looks nothing like a pit bull or shar-pei.

Shelter dogs of any breed/mix are a bad idea for people with small children.
It's safer for your children for you to choose a breed that is good with small children, find a reputable breeder, and make sure the bitch and sire have great temperaments.

I'll concede that most of these don't happen with pure blooded pits because the owners can't afford one, but more often than not a fatality is cause by a mutt with pit blood

The woman needs to be arrested and charged. What she did/didn't do is criminal.
