Attorneys for a Raleigh police officer began making the case Monday that he should be compensated the burns, blisters and emotional damage he suffered when a hot cup of coffee spilled on his lap in January 2012.

I hate how policeman get free shite all the time. I'm not being anti-cop, but why do they get free shite all of the time? I worked in a deli in high school and they would raid the place with absolutely no shame.

They usually hang out there or frequently visit lowering the likelihood of robbery, etc. Cheap security.

We gave a percentage off to cops at the restaurant I worked at, and they would tip us very well to compensate... even the very cop that I got my DUI from
ETA: We did this because we could have as many as 10 cop cars in the tiny lot at one time when they came in. You avoid criminals this way.

Why does it matter that it was free? If he sustained serious injury due to negligence or some other issue causes by the store, does the $2 he would have paid really make a difference? Or if it is frivolous, does the $2 make it less bad?

lol, why does it matter if the coffee is free or not? Are you saying if he paid the $1.20 for it then he would be more justified in his complaint?
Now, I'll gladly admit that cases like these (and this one is no different) get taken WAY too far with "emotional distress" and other shite like that, but I don't see what's wrong with seeking reimbusement of his medical bills, if in fact they are the result of the company's negligence.
