Police officers in California and Canada are posing as roadside panhandlers to catch motorists who are texting while driving or failing to wear seat belts, OregonLive.com reports. Positioned at off ramps or busy intersections, the "panhandlers'' call nearby uniformed officers, who then stop the violators and write tickets.
The "panhandlers'' disclose they are law enforcement officers: They hold signs warning drivers they are looking for phone and seat belt violations, the website reports. Still, some critics suggest the ruse entraps motorists and might be illegal, OregonLive.com said

Fine for seatbelts, but pretending to be looking at my phone is my go-to move to avoid looking at panhandlers...

This. And why is it okay to change your radio station while driving or eat while driving or look at your garmin while driving but NOT okay to look at your phone GPS?

So fricking stupid....
Meanwhile there's a house getting broke into or a kidnapping in progress or some lady get raped, but let's not focus on being presence in the community to help prevent crimes.

I'm actually OK with this. I'm glad to see them cracking down on texting drivers. I almost get run off the road by a texting driver at least once a week.
shite is dangerous.

the best part of that sign is you can see how many tries it took him until he was ready to use the marker to bold in his go-to words

Well now I'll just have to text while I'm on the highway instead of waiting to stop at a light.

Reminds me of the NOLA UC cops busting people for smoking a joint in the quarter during Mardi Gras.

Is it even possible for anyone to deny that the police force has become another way to tax the general public?
