Police Officer Attacks Child

A child is hospitalized after being attacked by a police K-9, Pearl's mayor confirmed on Tuesday.
quote:
The dog's handler, Chris Picou, took K-9 Splinter to his home in Gluckstadt, Pearl police said. Picou let the dog out of its pen and went inside the house, Capt. Brian McGarity said. When Picou came back outside, he realized that the dog had escaped by digging under the fence, McGarity said.
Picou went looking for the dog, found it and discovered that it had bitten a 5-year-old boy who was riding his bike, McGairty said. Pearl police officials advised the child's parents to take him to a hospital.

Serious question- if you're the parent, and the dog is attacking your child- are you within your rights to defend your child with any means (I.e. a gun if you're a CCL holder)?

I thought I heard that K9 officers aren't allowed to let their dogs out of the pen while at home.

"Just comply with the officer. Fighting back only makes it worse."

Interesting point. Do you do time for murdering a police officer if you shoot the cop dog?

The dog is registered as a police officer. You would get shot dead by the police if this was your reaction to the situation not saying that it's unjustified on your part IMO.

Or maybe the boy was in a private parking lot.

Makes sense. They suck at training them.

That K9 would've taken a bat to the head.

Was dog charged and given an arraignment? Seems like a clear cut case of assault to me...

The cop double standard is just great.
Police dog injured or killed: You killed a police officer!
Police dog injures or kills a civilian: Look, it's just a dog.
