Actually reading the link, it sounds like there was already shots fired in the area before the cops showed up and then they continued to fire when the cops got there.
Not sure how that little information justifies is as strictly an attack on police and not just some cray cray with a gun firing on everybody. Hopefully it's just an isolated incident.

Very well could have been shooting to draw police to the area. Could have been completely unrelated though. Folks dont usually fire on police from an unknown area though unless they are there for the purpose of shooting them. If the cops didnt know where the guy was and he wasnt there for them, he likely would have just stayed hidden or left.

When police got there they found several cars and two apartment doors with holes in them. While they were waiting for SWAT, someone shot at them.
Police say a SWAT team and a police helicopter were called in to help search the area. The search was called off when no suspect was located.
