I travel for work so have had to drop having a knife on me. Only a matter of time before I forgot it and TSA had a nice knife.
This is why I don't carry one. Had to mail it back to myself for like $10; it was a gift.
As to why one would carry one, it is nice to have a blade when you need one, it's a tool. I think any grown man could use a blade once a day at least. It is certainly a last line protection item, I don't think many people in this thread carry them around to stab fools for acting out of line.
However I haven't found they aren't the most practical thing to have in your pocket with all the other shite you have to carry.

I carry a leatherman multitool in a pouch on my hip. Leatherman wingman.

Full sized griptilian here. I've had it for over a year now. Just sent it to Benchmade for the free sharpening and service.

How do you like that feature?
I bought dad a Proelia D2 for fathers day. The ball bearing makes this beast open with ease. Too big imo to carry every day though.

I really like it, though it's probably not as smooth as it could be. I fidget with my hands so when I have one of those bad boys on me I'll flick it

Benchmade Mini Griptilian
Looks like I've found the popular choice. Now I need to decide Grip or Mini Grip.

Thoughts? How often do you sharpen it? I'm considering the mini barrage.
I've had one for a couple of years. My favorite knife. I use a lansky system, but I'd highly recommend using benchmades Lifesharp program. Sent mine in and had them clean it, replace the clip, and sharpen to factory edge. I think it cost $5 for shipping. That's it.

Kershaw 1835TBLKST Kuro Tanto Folding Knife with SpeedSafe (2-Step Serration)
Your next must-have knife! All eyes turn to you when you take the Kershaw Kuro out of your pocket and put it to work. The Kuro offers standout looks—and standout function. The blade is a modified—or Americanized—tanto with partial serration and a drop point. It has two primary blade grinds: at the tip and along the edge. This gives the Kuro a strong piercing tip with plenty of steel behind the tip to provide strength. The belly-less edge provides good slashing capability while the partial blade serration offers versatility for cutting fibrous materials with ease. For speedy, one-handed opening, the Kuro has SpeedSafe assisted opening, accessed with the built-in flipper. Just pull back on the flipper blade protrusion to start the blade out of the handle. Then the SpeedSafe torsion bar takes over and the knife opens easily, ready for use. The ambidextrous flipper works perfectly for both lefties and righties. The handle scales are glass-filled nylon for durability and dimensional stability, even in temperature extremes. The eye-catching pattern on the scales offers additional grip traction and looks like nothing else. A sturdy locking liner secures the blade open until you release it.
It cuts stuff pretty good
