I'm going attempt to build my children an 8'x6' playhouse (raised platform) with a slide and rope ladder. I planned on building it 4' ft above ground level. Is it necessary to cement the corner post in the ground? If not, should they be placed directly on the soil or should I rest them on some crushed gravel or pavers? TIA.

put them on pavers

wood on dirt just encourages rot

I would want a footing of some sort if I were building it, probably not necessary though.

That depends, how much do you really love your kids?

That's what I was thinking, but seems like there would be some shifting.

Well I am building it at the furthest point on my property if that tells you anything.

it's not that much work to sakrete the posts, wouldn't want the house coming down on the kids

We used fake (rubber) mulch.

Works fine. Spongy if he falls.

I know when installing a fence, you should put 1/3 of the post in the ground. That can't be true for a structure with four post, right?

I built this one in February and put the 4's directly on the grass. No issues whatsoever.

You could always compact the soil at the corners and then use something like this LINK to prevent direct wood on dirt contact to slow down rot.

I just ran about 300' of fence using 8' posts buried 2', are you telling me I have to redo it?
jk, I don't think you need to bury a third of the posts to get a good anchor

a 4' high, 8' x 6' structure is pretty stable

I don't see the need to concrete in the posts

I'd put more than just corner posts as well for added stability

Did you add cross supports for the bottom portion? None of the playhouses purchased from a box store are put in the ground, and they are considerably lighter than the one I plan on building.

About 20 minutes with a post hole digger and 4 bags of easy-crete.....I would go ahead and anchor them in the ground.

I had built a playhouse as a kid, and the one I built for my stepkids was an improvement but neither had a foundation, both are on wood.

Pretty much all reclaimed and recycled products, entire thing cost $650 including the $50 for the old Morgan shed.

OP, it all depends on how high the house is going to be. Why? You don't want it to flip on it side from a high wind.

If you build something like LSU4, you good.
