Yes, they're called pussies.

Not afraid no, but not a place where I want to stand and shoot the breeze.

No phobia of funeral homes. But absolutely cannot stand the smell of the flowers at a funeral. They all have this characteristic smell and it's not a flower smell. I've smelled it often, in arrangements in hotels particularly. Sometime the whole lobby of a hotel smells like a funeral home to me. Grosses me out.

Yes, the smell is foul. However, I don't think it's flowers. It's the chemicals used.

I don't have a phobia of funeral homes but I try to avoid the people that work there. I always see them as used car salesmen trying to soften people up for a bad deal.

I don't like funeral homes, but the older I have gotten, the less anxiety I have around them.

I'm the same exact way.

I have more of a phobia of viewing bodies.

Now, I'd never want to be in one overnight by myself.

I don't have a phobia. But most like folks, I don't enjoy going there. Typically not a fun experience.

Funny you say this. After many 20/20s and 60 Minutes and such I developed the same opinion. But I recently got to know a funeral director and he is a nice and genuine guy. I was afraid of cemeteries until I was 14. I can't imagine doing that kind of work.

My first job was a funeral home, worked there for a year and a half.

There's nothing to be scared of in there, it's a building just like any other. The only time you woudl see scary/fricked up stuff is in the back rooms which obviously the public doesn't have access to.

Then maybe you just have a shitty funeral home in your town.

I mean, it is a business and it's not free. Whether you're going burial or cremation, it costs money. And inevitably, the family will have to sit down wiht the staff at some point and go over these things in detail. Sure, there will be some people who try to upsell and make you buy an expensive casket you don't need, but there's people liek that in eveyr profession. All the people I know in the biz take extreme pride in their job and are ultimate professionals. The kind of people who would prey on families for a few extra bucks are just jerks, plain and simple. But they don't reprsent the profession as a whole, I wouldn't say.

Not really. Unfortunately I'm at that age where grandparents and other relatives start passing on. It bothered me more when I was 12 or 13 when my grandfather passed. I was 24 when my grandmother passed, and it wasn't that big of a deal. Probably because she had suffered a stroke when I was 15 and had been partially paralyzed for almost 10 years. It was more like a blessing that she wasn't suffering anymore.

Both of my other grandparents passed within 6 months of each other about a year and a half ago. It was a little harder to take. But both funerals were very nice. Just hard to explain to the kids what's happening without getting a little choked up.

I have noticed most everyone I have entered is staffed by hugely obese males with bama bangs or bean pole skinny males with pale complexions and thin greasy hair.. Necrophiliac Much?

I had a job delivering flowers in high school. I used to have to go into empty funeral homes at odd hours and put flowers next to the open casket. I was pretty freaked out at first, but I got used to it eventually.

was this a small town?

At ours there was a back room that connected to the parking lot that was the "flower room". Flower companies would just enter the room and drop off deliveries and our staff would put them out accordingly. And we damn sure wouldn't let anyone be roaming around the place while it was empty.
