An online petition called "Wait Until 8th" asks parents to hold out until their child is in at least 8th grade to purchase a phone. The organizers argue phones are addictive and distracting for children and cause social media pressures.

I got one at 15 after I got a learners permit. A bit different nowadays though when people are getting rid of landlines.

Great idea. Letting young kids use smart phones is trashy AF.

It's so weird to me that this is a bigger deal than getting your first car, but I guess I'm old now.

Smart phone, with open access to whatever, certainly isn't smart or good parenting.

Big difference between a couple mags or videos (especially 80's porn with bush blocking so much) and...internet porn, which is potentially, you know, anything imaginable.

I think it's ridiculous. You want to have the kid that gets made fun of for being the only one without a phone?

I won't buy my kids one until they are old enough to stay home alone

I was just stirring your pot.

I think middle school is fine for kids to have a phone, with limitations of course

What i dont like, and hopefully i can avoid, is seeing a family of four at a restautant and hardly a word is spoken bc all four have their noses in their phone.

It should be called "Prevent your daughter from sending out noods until she's in 8th grade"

Agreed. We're a few years out from that with our daughter, but we try to pay attention to that now.
